Paul Tovey founder of IT Freelancer – About Me
My name is Paul Tovey and I have been a Freelance IT specialist for the last 6 years. Since school, I have had an active interest in information technology and always been fascinated by its advancement over the years. I remember when I was in primary school, being allowed to use an Acorn PC for the first time, this computer was terrible and only really ever froze on me, but years later, I remember being given a second-hand PC with a 2.0Ghz processor, it was quite a jump forward in such a small amount of time! The technological advancements needed to create this chip blew me away and I started to see the impact that technological advancements had on the world. It was not just the latest technology that caught my eye, but the global internet too.
I quickly realized that the potential for the internet was vastly underestimated, even back in my youth. The internet was used mainly for e-mails and terrible card games, which I saw as a waste of potential, it was not long before businesses realized this too and was already spamming the world with sales and offers. Since then, it has always been seen as a great thing to noticed on a search engine, all the way from Archie, the first search engine, in 1990 up to the most popular search engine of 2013, Google. The rules of getting your name to the top of search engines have always been shady to me since before 2013 and quite often a company could simply pay an Indian based company a fraction of UK prices for a whole bunch of back-links to their website. But not anymore thanks to the panda update, for me, this was a great step forward for SEO.

In Summary, I’ve always been fascinated with search engines and the optimization processes behind them, regardless if it’s Google, Bing or Yahoo, who would not want to be on top spot of a search engine result? For a business, this is invaluable. Over the past few years, I have had (and still have) many clients that I perform SEO for on a fixed monthly fee of £250 with the ability to leave whenever they want to, which also to date, none of them have done. The main thing I get asked is: “Why do you not charge more? Businesses charge at least £500 per month for these kind of services” and the answer is simple, Principles. I am a freelancer, not a business. I do not need to charge more to pay for office rent, expenses, staff costs and travel. I work from the comfort of my own home and my SEO work to date is of the same quality, if not better, than any SEO company could offer. I’m honest, hardworking and love what I do. How could I need any more motivation than that? References are always available on request, unfortunately, I have recently had to remove my on-line portfolio due to the respected clients being contacted by shady sales consultants.
